CGSTA is a trainee-led national global surgery organization in Canada, affiliated with the International Student Surgical Network. After the release of the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery in 2015, there has been an increased awareness in this field. With a large number of trainees interested in and participating in global surgery experiences, we hope to develop stronger networks for collaboration, education and advocacy across Canada.
AREAS OF ACTIVITY
LOCAL CHAPTER DEVELOPMENT
Local chapters work in conjunction with CGSTA to provide professional development, educational and networking opportunities for medical students and residents interested in global surgery.
We bring attention to the surgical and anesthetics needs in a global setting and represent underserved local and international communities with inadequate access to surgical services.
We strive to facilitate educational experiences in global surgery as well as work with universities across Canada to develop a global surgery curriculum and career tracks to provide professional development and mentorship.
At CGSTA, we aim to increase research capacity by identifying problems, setting objectives, and working towards sustainable solutions. Currently, we are developing a repository for medical students and residents all across Canada.
We are dedicated to forming strong partnerships with local and international organizations working in global surgery.
